In 2000, in California, USA, renowned Afghan writer Amir (played by Khalid Abdalla) receives a call that brings him back to his childhood... In 1978, Kabul, Afghanistan, Amir (played by Zekiria Ebrahimi) is a wealthy boy, and Hassan (played by Ahmad Khan Mahmoodzada), the son of the servant Ali, is his loyal companion and playmate. The two participate in a traditional kite-flying competition, where Amir experiences something unforgettable, forever changing their fates: Ali and Hassan leave Amir's home with no news; as the Afghan war breaks out, Amir and his father immigrate to the United States, starting a new life.
