Rick (played by Kenneth Branagh) is a highly experienced criminal defense attorney who has maintained a leading position in the industry with his clear logic and exceptional eloquence, remaining undefeated for eight consecutive years. However, while his career flourishes, Rick's marriage is gradually withering and approaching death, and he and his wife Lennie (played by Famke Janssen) are currently drafting a divorce agreement. One day, as Rick leaves his celebration party and prepares to go home, he encounters a waitress named Jasmine (played by Embeth Davidtz). Jasmine tells Rick that her car has been stolen, and out of sympathy, he offers her a ride home, unaware that this will lead to a bizarre case. Rick decides to become Jasmine's defender, and while dealing with a web of complex clues, he gradually falls into the gentle trap woven by Jasmine.
