In 1968, Dagenham, England. The Ford car manufacturing plant is undoubtedly the leader among private enterprises in the UK. However, in the male-dominated automobile industry, the status of women is particularly low. 187 female sewing workers toil in a harsh factory environment, sweating as they sew car seat covers. The dirty, hot working conditions and long hours, combined with the fact that their wages are abysmally low due to gender discrimination, make their situation even more dire. Nevertheless, to maintain the barest necessities of life, these workers have endured this unfair treatment. Finally, they decide to take to the streets with slogans, going on strike to protest the gender discrimination they face at work, demanding equal pay for equal work. Rita O'Grady (portrayed by Sally Hawkins) is undoubtedly the leader in this struggle for women's rights. With extraordinary courage and relentless efforts, Rita leads many female workers down the path of defending their rights. Soon, this strike spreads across the UK, becoming the trigger for the enactment of the "Equal Pay Act" against gender discrimination.
