The dramatic life of Bavaria's "Fairy Tale King," who was once portrayed in "Twilight of the Gods" by Visconti, comes to the screen again. The beauty-loving Ludwig II was enamored with Wagner's operas; he ascended the throne at the age of eighteen, attempting to resolve conflicts with music and passionately pursuing art in search of freedom. However, war loomed, and his dream world was not understood. The shattered dream of peace, national humiliation, and repressed same-sex desires gnawed at his sensitive soul. In his later years, he became reclusive, obsessed with spending enormous amounts of money building luxurious castles, striving to realize a fairy-tale kingdom before his eyes, only to be viewed as a madman. The male lead perfectly portrays the elegant young Ludwig II, and the stunning scenery includes breathtaking visuals of places like the Palace of Versailles and Neuschwanstein Castle. ◎QAF
