Karen (Meryl Streep) is a vain heiress who leaves her homeland of Denmark to marry an East African baron in Kenya for the purpose of gaining the title of baroness. However, the title does not bring her a fulfilling marriage. Fortuitously, in that vast land, Karen frequently goes hunting and adventuring, and she gradually falls in love with this magical place. During a hunting incident, Karen meets a young British nobleman, Denys (Robert Redford). After facing the breakdown of her marriage and her husband's departure, Karen independently takes on the responsibility of managing the estate. Through her labor, she gradually develops deep friendships with the servants on the plantation, and her relationship with Denys also seems to progress. However, fate does not allow Karen to sail smoothly from then on; a fire forces her to sell the estate to alleviate her financial struggles, and later, Denys's unexpected death in a plane crash strikes her with another heavy blow. After enduring the trials of life, Karen ultimately bids farewell to the land where she poured her youth and passion... This film won 7 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 58th Oscars in 1986.
