This film is adapted from the historical facts of the Wushe Incident. In 1895, after the Treaty of Shimonoseki ceded Taiwan, Japan immediately took military control over the island, breaking through various regions. However, due to the inaccessibility of roads in the mountainous areas of Taiwan, the indigenous people's lives were temporarily unaffected. Among the Seediq people in the Wushe area, the young Mohandoro (played by Yu Da-qing) from the Maja group displayed exceptional courage, leading his clan in a relentless struggle against the Japanese forces. The Japanese, coveting the rich resources of Wushe, attempted to invade but faced fierce resistance from the Seediq, resulting in heavy casualties. Ultimately, they invaded Wushe by exploiting the rivalries among the indigenous groups. Mohandoro had no choice but to endure humiliation and surrender, but the flame of resistance in his heart never extinguished. By 1930, after years of Japan's "civilizing" efforts on the Wushe indigenous people, the imposition of Japanese language and culture failed to grant the indigenous people equal rights. The oppression and heavy labor imposed by the Japanese eroded the traditions and dignity of the Seediq people. Years of accumulated anger finally erupted in full force that year!
