The film is adapted from the forensic scientist Qin Ming's novel "The Corpse Speaker." It tells the story of Qin Ming (played by Yan Yikuan), known as the "Ghost Hand, Buddha Heart," who has performed autopsies on over 1,000 corpses without making a mistake. He accidentally discovers that the "Mute Body Master," preserved in formaldehyde for six years, was murdered, raising media questions about a misjudgment and thrusting him into the eye of public scrutiny. Following the clues left by the corpses, with the help of his intern Jia Jia (played by Dai Si) and police captain Lin Tao (played by Geng Le), Qin Ming uncovers the secrets behind a 16-year-old snow disaster murder case, the misjudged murder of the "Mute Body Master," and the IT man's lung explosion case that has yielded no answers. After experiencing a series of upheavals, Qin Ming ultimately becomes a "death speaker" who speaks for the dead and rights the living.
