The story takes place at the end of World War II in a small town in Sicily, where the residents are immersed in a lively celebratory atmosphere. Taking advantage of this moment, the devil disguises himself and infiltrates the town, arriving at the home of the local photographer, Ciresitino (Gennaro Pisano). He requests to stay, and the kind-hearted Ciresitino welcomes him. The devil casts a spell on one of Ciresitino's cameras, causing anyone photographed by it to die. Upon discovering this secret, Ciresitino is both fearful and excited. He tells the town's priest and the mayor about it, but no one is willing to believe him and they think he is insane. Continuously denied and ridiculed, Ciresitino's heart begins to darken, and he realizes that this camera can help him "punish evil and promote good."
