Middle-aged man Shohei Sugiyama (played by Koji Yakusho) is an ordinary office worker. He is diligent in his work and has a successful career but finds his 9 to 5 life empty and uninteresting. One day after work, a tired Sugiyama happens to see through the car window a charming woman standing by a window of a building across the station, which has a sign that reads "Kashikawa Dance School." Looking at her gazing into the distance, Sugiyama is deeply attracted to her lonely expression. A few days later, unable to suppress his curiosity, Sugiyama enters the dance school and starts to learn ballroom dancing. The woman he saw is none other than the dance instructor Mai Kashikawa (played by Tamiyo Kusakari). Sugiyama gradually develops a genuine love for dancing and enjoys the joy it brings along with others like Aoki (played by Naoto Takenaka). They undergo special training for a dance competition under guidance, and the dance teacher reignites her love for dance…
