In 1959, at William Dawes Elementary School in Lexington, Massachusetts, the school was approaching its anniversary day, and a creative idea proposed by a little girl named Lucinda Embry (played by Lara Robinson) was adopted by the principal. On anniversary day, students were encouraged to draw their visions of the future, which would be collected and placed in a metal time capsule to be buried underground, with plans to reopen it 50 years later. After the anniversary, Lucinda exhibited strange behavior, writing cryptic messages in blood on the walls and warning her teacher. In 2009, William Dawes Elementary School celebrated its anniversary again, and the time capsule, buried for 50 years, was unearthed. A boy named Caleb (played by Chandler Canterbury) received a letter from Lucinda, which had no pictures and was filled entirely with seemingly random numbers. Caleb's father, John (played by Nicolas Cage), studied these numbers at night and discovered they formed a prophetic code. The numbers in the document clearly recorded many disasters that had occurred in the world over the past 50 years.
