The story begins with the childhood of two young boys. Brian (played by Brady Corbet) was raped by his baseball team coach at the age of eight, leaving him with an indelible psychological scar that became a permanent nightmare in his mind. The other boy, Neil (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), was lured home by the coach at the same age, which distorted his perception and led him to indulge in homosexual experiences, eventually becoming a gay male prostitute in his hometown. At this time, Brian finds a photograph from when he and Neil were on the same baseball team and uses it as a clue to locate Neil’s home. Coincidentally, Neil has just gone to New York in search of a new life. Thus, Brian maintains contact with Neil through Neil's good friends. On Christmas Eve, the two finally reunite at the home of the coach who abused them, where Neil recounts the true events of that time...
