In a secret room of the Ming Dynasty's Zao Room, the Grand Secretary takes out the late emperor's will to publicly announce who among the five imperial uncles has been designated as the regent by the late emperor. Suddenly, a masked stranger arrives, stabbing the Grand Secretary and stealing the will. The chief of the capital's police, Tie Zhongjie, is wounded by a poisoned arrow during the chase and informs his brother Tie Zhongying before dying that the poison is called "Dan Ding Hong." Tie Zhongying is assigned to solve this case. Wang Jizhou, a well-versed prince with the potential to be regent, is killed by a mysterious poisoned arrow while hunting, which is also poisoned with Dan Ding Hong.
