In a secret room of the Ming Dynasty's Zao Room, the Grand Secretary takes out the late emperor's will to publicly announce who among the five imperial uncles has been designated as the regent by the late emperor. Suddenly, a masked stranger arrives, stabbing the Grand Secretary and stealing the will. The chief of the capital's police, Tie Zhongjie, is wounded by a poisoned arrow during the chase and informs his brother Tie Zhongying before dying that the poison is called "Dan Ding Hong." Tie Zhongying is assigned to solve this case. Wang Jizhou, a well-versed prince with the potential to be regent, is killed by a mysterious poisoned arrow while hunting, which is also poisoned with Dan Ding Hong. The lecherous Wang Runan is similarly struck down by a poisoned arrow while pursuing women, using the same poison. Wang Duanzhou suspects that the three Han sisters, who have a grudge against the princes for their father’s murder, are responsible and sends troops to destroy their hideout at Bai Ma Mountain, capturing the oldest sister Feiyun. The sisters Yiyun and Caiyun attempt to rescue her but fall into an ambush; just as they are in danger, they are saved by the masked Yilü. Upon learning that Feiyun has been killed, the Yiyun sisters vow to avenge her by assassinating Wang Duanzhou. When they carry out the attack, Tie Zhongying arrives and discovers that the assassin is Caiyun, his childhood sweetheart, and the prince who dies is not Wang Duanzhou but Wang Luoyang. Only Wang Changsha and Wang Duanzhou are left among the five princes; who is the real culprit? The case becomes increasingly perplexing. After initial deductions, Tie Zhongying suspects that Wang Changsha will be the next victim, deciding to uncover the truth. Sure enough, one night, a masked figure leads the Yiyun sisters into Wang Changsha's residence, and Tie Zhongying rushes to confront the masked stranger, injuring him and causing him to flee. Meanwhile, the Han sisters are ambushed, and Yiyun tragically dies under a hail of arrows, while Tie Zhongying manages to rescue Caiyun. At the scene where Wang Luoyang was shot, Tie Zhongying finds a porcelain bottle containing Dan Ding Hong with the Wang Changsha residence's insignia at the bottom. Tie Zhongying investigates Wang Changsha's residence again, but is captured. However, he eventually escapes from prison. With Caiyun's assistance, Tie Zhongying engages in a battle of wits against Wang Changsha, Wang Duanzhou, and the masked stranger, ultimately uncovering that the masked stranger is Zhou Feng, Wang Duanzhou's steward. In a fit of rage, Tie Zhongying kills the true culprit, Wang Changsha, who poisoned the three princes; however, Wang Duanzhou, now in power as regent, is plotting anew. Tie Zhongying resolutely resigns from his official position and embarks on a journey with Caiyun.
