A young writer Xiao Bei (played by Yue Yunpeng), who is disheartened by reality, experiences a fantastical journey on a low night after facing setbacks. He travels back to the early 20th century to save his ancestors entangled in gang troubles, collaborates with his forebearers during the Qing dynasty taking the imperial examination, fights alongside his ancestors in the Ming dynasty, saves and helps people with his ancestors in the Jin dynasty, and discusses the origins and meaning of life with Nuwa and Kuafu from ancient times. Throughout the journey, he witnesses love, gains confidence and responsibility, undergoes transformations in human nature, and experiences personal growth. This fantastical adventure ultimately represents the release of his new book, which is dedicated to his unseen mother and ancestors.
