Ever since surviving the catastrophic event that all Jews dread to speak of, Jonathan (Elijah Wood) has been determined to find the savior who once helped his grandfather. With his grandfather’s passing imminent, this daunting task naturally falls on Jonathan's shoulders. Armed with an old photograph given to him by his grandfather, Jonathan embarks on a journey to the site of his grandfather's rescue in Ukraine, where he encounters the suspicious guide Alex (Eugene Hutz) and the unbelievably cantankerous old man Boris (Jonathan Safran Foer).
