Mason Lu Er (played by Zhang Tong) encounters the Emperor, who is under house arrest by the Empress Dowager, while repairing the imperial palace. The Emperor tattoos Lu Er's private area and appoints him to rescue the Grand Scholar (played by Wang Jinsong) from the dungeon. Lu Er accepts the mission and meticulously devises a plan for the rescue. He feigns a robbery to infiltrate the dungeon but inadvertently meets the casino owner Hong Zhong (played by Huang Xiaolei), and they become acquainted through their altercations.
