The fox spirit Xiao Wei (played by Zhou Xun) is frozen in the icy hell for five hundred years due to violating the demon realm rules while saving a person. In her suffering, Xiao Wei has only two choices to escape the icy cave: either to be caught back by the ice tongue of the icy hell or to obtain a “self-sacrificing” human heart to truly become human. She searches everywhere for her target until she stumbles upon the runaway bride, Princess Jing (played by Zhao Wei), who has been disfigured by an accident. Xiao Wei soon realizes that the princess has a unique heart, and she places all her hopes of becoming human on the princess. The princess's appearance in White City astonishes Huo Xin (played by Chen Kun), her childhood friend who is burdened with guilt. Faced with the reality of the princess escaping her wedding and planning to elope with him, Huo Xin finds it hard to accept. Xiao Wei discovers the subtle psychological state between Princess Jing and Huo Xin, and her plan begins to take shape. She instills in the princess that a man's love for a woman is merely lust, suggesting that the princess's ugliness is the only reason Huo Xin cannot accept her love. Xiao Wei uses her devilish powers to confuse Huo Xin, and when the princess, wearing Xiao Wei's skin, tempts him and experiences physical pleasure for the first time, she begins to believe in the power of beauty that Xiao Wei spoke of. At this moment, the Tianlang Kingdom approaches, intent on seizing the bride, and Huo Xin attempts to resist alone, ready to sacrifice himself for love. However, at a critical moment, Princess Jing unexpectedly saves him, greatly shocking Huo Xin. He realizes what love truly is; to be together in the name of love, even to die together, is the essence of love. The dramatic farewell of death profoundly changes the attitudes of the two women. The relationship between Xiao Wei and the princess shifts from seduction and coercion to conspiracy, while Huo Xin, upon learning the truth about their heart and skin exchange, blinds himself in despair, even attempting to exchange his heart for the princess's heart. The princess's determination to die for love, Huo Xin's courage to fight for true love, and Xiao Wei's efforts to change her fate ultimately culminate in a miracle during the eclipse...
