Michael (played by Steven Robertson) was left completely paralyzed at a young age due to polio, living in a rehabilitation center for disabled individuals. Although he receives care for his daily needs, no one is able to understand the abstract language he uses, leaving him in a state of loneliness. One day, a fellow patient named Roy (played by James McAvoy) enters Michael's life. Roy is also fully paralyzed, with only his right hand able to move. However, unlike other patients, Roy is quick-witted and optimistic, and remarkably, he seems to understand the language Michael is trying to express. Roy's presence brings a splash of color to Michael's dreary life, rekindling his hope for the future.
