Felix (Jack Lemmon) is famously known for his uptight personality, a trait that becomes increasingly apparent as he ages. In life, Felix is a very picky and cantankerous individual, dissatisfied by many things, and he is the type who will speak up when he feels uncomfortable. Oscar (Walter Matthau), who was once a sports broadcaster, is scruffy in appearance and takes a laid-back approach to life, ignoring the little details. The two old friends experience many conflicts due to their contrasting personalities and ultimately decide to go their separate ways after a heated argument. However, fate is peculiar; despite the ongoing tension between the two old men, their children are about to walk down the aisle together. This means that Felix and Oscar must once again share a space to attend their children's wedding.
