This film chronicles the epic and legendary life of India's Mahatma Gandhi. In 1893, the 24-year-old Gandhi (played by Ben Kingsley) was invited to South Africa to work as a lawyer, where he resolved to lead Indian immigrants in non-violent protests and was subsequently imprisoned. After his release, Gandhi returned to his homeland and established a monastery in the Sabarmati region, joining the Indian National Congress-led independence movement and promoting the philosophy of non-violent resistance. During the movement, Gandhi was imprisoned four times; through his relentless efforts and the leadership of the Congress, Indian independence was finally put on the agenda, and Gandhi attended the Round Table Conference in London in 1931 to discuss independence. However, as independence approached, religious tensions between Muslims and Hindus in India intensified, posing new challenges to Gandhi's principle of non-violent resistance...
