James Bond (Timothy Dalton) and his friend Wright are tracking drug lord Sanchez in South America, but the cunning Sanchez escapes them, and Wright falls into Sanchez's trap—a shark tank. Although Wright ultimately survives, he loses both of his legs. Bond's superior orders him to stop the investigation, but driven by a thirst for revenge, Bond insists on pursuing the case and has his special "license to kill" confiscated. Without the support of intelligence agencies, Bond determines to go it alone. When Bond heads to a nightclub in Panama to apprehend Sanchez, who is supposed to be meeting there, he is captured by an agent from Hong Kong and taken to a rendezvous point with the British intelligence services. The sly Sanchez sends armed men to blow up their meeting place. Fortunately, Bond escapes with his life and vows to make Sanchez pay for his blood debts!
