This comedy by Carl Theodore Dreyer introduces the trajectory of inner changes and calls for exaggerated twists and performance styles in its comedic form. His simplicity ranges from the office in "The President" to the home of Madame Marguerite, becoming more rustic. There is also the beginning of the depiction of appearance. In the film, the con artist ultimately cannot resist the pangs of conscience and the barriers of a false marriage that separate him from his true feelings for his girlfriend. Interestingly, the deceived elderly woman has long sensed his ill intentions but is by no means a villain. Instead, external forces ultimately lead to internal fulfillment.
