The young and beautiful Maya (played by Deepa Sai) is filled with dreams and desires about life. One day, her father falls down the stairs and injures his leg. A young village doctor (played by Farooq Sheikh) comes to treat him. A gentle flower of love blossoms between the gentleman doctor and Maya, and they get married. The beginning of their new life is exciting, as redecorating the rooms and experiencing a sense of belonging make Maya feel happy and joyful. But gradually, the monotonous side of married life begins to reveal itself. The dull life of the middle class in a boring small town becomes unbearable, and Maya discovers and chooses to enter a series of extramarital affairs. At the same time, she yearns for a more colorful life that brings her dreamy romance and passionate experiences. She takes pleasure in luxury, hoping to indulge in extravagance for satisfaction, but this only leads her to deception, debt, and despair. Even her extramarital affairs evolve from initial platonic feelings to passion, eventually turning into a sad possessiveness, which makes her realize that affairs can be as mundane and uninteresting as marriage. This further disheartens Maya about reality and drives her deeper into her illusions. She continues to chase the mirage she created until her joys and fears, along with the magic, come to an end. The story is told in reverse, depicting the changes in Maya's life. In the conclusion of the film, as her house is auctioned, Maya seems to be completely engulfed by the life she fantasized.
