Edith (Mia Wasikowska) is an amateur horror novelist who one day encounters the handsome British inventor Thomas (Tom Hiddleston). His polite and genteel demeanor quickly captures Edith's attention, and their relationship develops rapidly. However, Edith's father Carter (Jim Beaver) is filled with hostility towards Thomas and strongly opposes his daughter’s association with him. At this critical moment, Carter unexpectedly dies, and Edith resolutely decides to leave her hometown to follow Thomas to the snowy hills of Cumbria, where a luxurious yet desolate villa stands, known as "Crimson Peak." There to greet Edith and Thomas is Thomas’s sister Lucille (Jessica Chastain), whose eerie and abrasive attitude makes Edith very uncomfortable. Soon, Edith discovers that in this seemingly sentient villa, numerous restless spirits linger, buried with countless secrets.
