Steve Lopez (played by Robert Downey Jr.) is a journalist for the Los Angeles Times who has recently been hospitalized due to a cycling accident. While in bed, he frequently hears beautiful violin music coming from nearby and meets a talented violinist, Nathaniel Ayers (played by Jamie Foxx).
