In the 1990s, the second-generation leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-il, took the stage in history. With his announcement to withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty, the relationship between North and South Korea became extremely tense. In this precarious situation, both sides sent spies to gather intelligence, looking for opportunities to overthrow each other's regimes. To sabotage North Korea's nuclear program, South Korea's National Intelligence Service found Army Colonel Park Seok-young (played by Hwang Jung-min) and ordered him to abandon his past identity to find a chance to infiltrate North Korea. Filled with passion, Park Seok-young retired and began a life of gambling and drinking, gradually creating a new persona. After years of effort, he became a successful South Korean businessman thriving in Beijing. Hard work paid off. He eventually made contact with Lee Myung-hoon, the head of North Korea's Foreign Economic Commission, and they exchanged information, testing each other. Meanwhile, North Korea's Ministry of State Security, led by Jeong Moo-seok, tried to uncover Park's true identity. In these turbulent times, men ran without reservation for the beliefs they held in their hearts… This film is adapted from the true story of South Korean spy Park Chae-soo.
