Captain Samar Anand (played by Shahrukh Khan) is an expert in mine clearance and explosives, holding a disarming record in the army. His daily work teeters on the edge of life and death, and despite facing mortality calmly, he never wears protective gear. After accidentally saving a girl named Akira Rai (played by Anushka Sharma), the love story revealed in her diary leaves her deeply enchanted by Samar. Using her position as an intern at the Discovery Channel, Akira undertakes a two-week documentation of Samar's story, gradually immersing herself in it. It turns out that several years ago, the poor young Samar, while in London as a struggling singer, encounters the wealthy Mira Talwar (played by Katrina Kaif) and captivates her heart with his beautiful voice. Despite being engaged, Mira falls hopelessly in love with him. However, as a devout Christian, Mira prays to God that if Samar survives a car accident, they would never meet again. Samar, who survives, thus loses the beloved Mira, prompting him to challenge God: to either let him die or bring Mira back to his side. Hence, Samar returns to India, beginning a perilous military life filled with gunfire. However, in 2012, he returns to London for Akira's documentary, only to encounter another accident that brings the amnesiac Mira back into his life… This film is the last work of Yash Chopra, celebrated as the "father of Bollywood romantic films."
