Tom (Fredric March) is a playwright with grand ideals, while George (Gary Cooper) is an obscure little painter. Both are part of the artistic community and share an apartment in Paris. By chance, Tom and George encounter a woman named Gilda (Miriam Hopkins), and they are both deeply attracted to her unique charm, falling into a romantic entanglement. Gilda, caught between the two men, cannot make a choice, so she comes up with a plan: to live with Tom and George, pushing them to create their works. Thus, a strange love triangle forms. To write a play, Tom needs to return to London for a while, and he is very worried that sparks might fly between George and Gilda during his absence.
