Three stories related to dogs, three segments of life that evoke emotion. Octavio (played by Gael Garcia Bernal) lives with his mother and brother and sister-in-law. His brother, Amirio (played by Marco Perez), is having an affair and works at a supermarket during the day while robbing it at night. He is very violent towards his wife, Susana (played by Vanessa Bauche), and their child. Octavio slowly falls in love with Susana, and to elope with her, he enters underground dog fighting competitions with his dog "Gaofei," winning a good amount of money. However, just before the day they plan to run away, Amirio and Susana leave with the child, taking his hard-earned money with them. Furious, Octavio arranges a final fight with an old rival, who, enraged by losing, shoots and injures "Gaofei." Octavio stabs his opponent and escapes by car, leading to a car accident that changes his and his family's lives forever. The model Valeria (played by Goya Toledo) crashes into Octavio. Her lover, Daniel (played by Alvaro Guerrero), has just left his wife, and they begin living together. The car accident greatly impacts her career, and her pet dog "Mickey" falling to the floor severely affects her mentally, plunging her life into turmoil. At the crash site, a homeless man named Martin picks up "Gaofei." Martin, having abandoned his wife and daughter to pursue dreams of joining a guerrilla group, becomes a professional killer after being released from prison. Yet, he still harbors the dreams of an ordinary father and hopes for his daughter's forgiveness. By chance, he has the opportunity to meet his daughter, but he finds himself unable to face her.
