Li Hong (played by Maggie Cheung) and her husband Nan Sheng (played by Tony Leung Ka-fai) were a couple living in Panyu, Guangdong. Later, with Li Hong's efforts, they successfully obtained a visa to the United States, while Nan Sheng stayed in China waiting for opportunities. After arriving in the US, Li Hong changed and wrote to her husband to express her desire to return home. Nan Sheng continuously comforted and encouraged her until he received a letter applying for a divorce. On one hand, he found it hard to believe, but on the other hand, he worried about his wife, so he illegally immigrated to New York.
