The TV station, in an effort to save its ratings, has planned a variety show called "Prize Adventure," where the winner can win up to $2 million, but the contestants may have to pay with their lives. François (played by Michel Piccoli) is an unemployed young man living on the verge of poverty, and he can no longer endure a life of financial struggle. Despite his girlfriend Lasa (played by Marie-France Pisier) strongly opposing his decision, François decides to sign up for the Prize Adventure. François is lucky enough to qualify in the preliminaries and enters the next round as a "fugitive." In this stage of the competition, François must find a way to evade the pursuers, but soon he realizes that this game is not as simple as he initially thought.
