Liu Jizu (played by Andy Lau) is a journalist who travels from Hong Kong to Vietnam on assignment, where he meets a translator named Nguyen Hong (played by Cherie Chung). By coincidence, Liu Jizu gets into a car accident and is arrested, but fortunately, with Nguyen Hong's help, he avoids imprisonment, and the two become friends. One day, Liu Jizu accidentally wanders into a protest march and is mistaken for the leader of the student movement, resulting in his arrest by the local military, where he is sentenced to three years in prison. Alongside Liu Jizu, Nguyen Hong's brother is also incarcerated. To save her brother, Nguyen Hong and Liu Jizu collaborate to plan an escape, but during this process, Nguyen Hong's brother tragically loses his life. After facing numerous difficulties and dangers, Liu Jizu and his companions finally reach a safe zone.
