The rogue sorcerer Maoshan Ming (played by Ng Yiu-Hon) lacks skill in magic and is full of clever tricks, often taking along Da Bao (played by Lyu Fang) and Xiao Bao to swindle food and drinks. While attempting to exorcise a ghost for the wealthy Tam Million, they encounter a powerful ghost and flee overnight. In the dead of night, Maoshan Ming stumbles into a quiet village, which is being harassed by malevolent bandits, and is heavily guarded. Maoshan Ming is mistakenly captured by the security captain (played by Lau Nam-kwong), but fortunately, the Taoist priest Jiu Shu (played by Lam Ching-ying) appears just in time to save him. At that moment, the bandits attack, and after a fierce battle, the villagers successfully drive them away. Due to a conflict, Da Bao and Xiao Bao are taken in by Jiu Shu.
