This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by contemporary French crime novelist Pierre Lemaitre, and it belongs to the same series as the acclaimed film "See You Up There," which is also based on a novel of the same name. The story is set in pre-World War II France, where the daughter of a banker, Madeleine, loses everything after being betrayed by friends and family following her father's death, ultimately staging a desperate fight for vengeance. Starring French national treasure Fanny Ardant and Léa Drucker, who won the César Award for Best Actress for "Custody," the film perfectly presents the romanticized French revenge story of the original work, reflecting the turbulent personal and national fates during the early 20th century. Nominated for the César Awards 2023 for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
