In Nagasaki, Japan, Yuichi Okano (played by Ryu Iwamatsu), who is already over fifty, is like a child who never grew up. He drifts through his work, taking life as it comes, and prefers performing in bars and creating manga. In his daily life, Yuichi lives with his elderly mother, Sanegi (played by Harue Akagi), and his son, Masaki (played by Kensuke Owada). The two men go out to earn money, often leaving the old lady home alone. Many years ago, Sanegi developed Alzheimer's disease; her daily condition is confusing, and it keeps Yuichi and his son busy. As the old lady's condition worsens day by day, Yuichi reluctantly decides to send his mother to a specialized care facility. Her current memory declines daily, while memories of childhood friends and her late husband (played by Ryo Kase) become increasingly vivid. The old lady can no longer distinguish between the past and the present, life and death. Those who were most important in her life gradually come to her side... This film is adapted from Yuichi Okano's four-panel comic based on his family story and won first place in the Film Quarterly's Top Ten Films of 2013.
