Pan Jinlian is born beautiful, sold as a maid at a young age, and later forced to marry the ugly man Wu Dalang as his wife. Dalang's brother Song, known for his divine bravery, gains fame by drunkenly defeating the White Eyed Tiger. Lian, seeing Song tall and handsome, boldly expresses her love for him, but Song resolutely rejects her and, to avoid suspicion, goes far away. The wealthy merchant Ximen Qing sees Lian's beauty and bribes the brothel keeper Wang Po to lure Lian into a trap. Angered by Song's lack of tenderness, Lian resolutely engages in an affair with Qing. To eliminate future troubles, Qing accepts Wang's scheme and poisons Dalang.
