According to medieval legends, Wendentine is a water spirit, and if a man who has united with her betrays her, she will kill him and return to the water. The film's protagonist wants to resist this curse, so she leaves Berlin. During this time, she meets Christopher, an industrial diver working in the water reservoir area of Western Germany. They fall in love. Soon after, Christopher senses that Wendentine seems to be running away from something and feels betrayed... The film "Wendentine" is the first part of director Christian Petzold's planned "Elemental Spirits Trilogy," with the next two parts focusing on the air spirit Sylph and the earth spirit Gnome.
