The film faithfully documents the real lives of local prostitutes in Thailand's "fishbowl," the slums of Bangladesh, and Mexico's red-light district. There are no performances or pretensions; the camera captures their painful and helpless lives, their dignity stripped away by discrimination, as well as their struggles and mutual support. The film does not evaluate the actions and behaviors of these prostitutes from a moral standpoint, but rather, it offers an observer's perspective, allowing the audience to understand the industry of prostitution and the conditions in which they survive up close. These deeply moving stories and truths will explore the culture of prostitution and its value in the context of gender, marriage, and religious beliefs. Directed by Austrian filmmaker Michael Glawogger, the documentary "The Honor of Prostitutes" is the final installment of the "Globalization Documentary Trilogy," which includes "Megacities" (1998) and "Death of a Labourer" (2005). The film was nominated for the Horizon section at the 2011 Venice Film Festival and won the Jury Grand Prize.
