Seven elderly British individuals reach the twilight of their lives and embark on a trip to Jaipur, India for vacation. Among them, the understanding Evelyn (played by Judi Dench) struggles to live independently after the loss of her husband; the heart-condition-stricken Judge Graham (played by Tom Wilkinson) harbors an unspoken secret; Douglas (played by Bill Nighy) and Jean hope to improve their stagnant marriage; the playful Norman and the spirited Madge are in search of romance; as for Muriel (played by Maggie Smith), who is awaiting surgery, she often comes across as cold and harsh. The seven, each with their own concerns, are drawn to an exotic advertisement and unwittingly find themselves at the Marigold Hotel. However, the real hotel is not as comfortable as advertised, and this Indian soul-searching journey does not turn out as expected. In this unfamiliar land, they begin to reflect on the remaining years of their lives, striving toward a happy ending to avoid regrets. The film is adapted from the novel "These Foolish Things" by British author Deborah Moggach.
