The story takes place in Haeundae, Busan, South Korea. In the 2004 Indonesian tsunami, due to the captain Wan-ji (played by Sol Kyung-gu)'s mistake, the father of Yeon-hee (played by Ha Ji-won) dies. He harbors deep guilt and takes meticulous care of this neighbor sister, gradually developing feelings for her. However, Wan-ji's high school classmate Oh Dong-chun (played by Kim In-kwon) does not look favorably on this ill-fated couple. Wan-ji's brother Hyung-ji (played by Lee Min-ki) is a lifeguard who, during a rescue operation, meets the wealthy Miss Kim Hee-mi (played by Kang Ye-won), leading to misunderstandings in their accidental relationship. Virgin (played by Yoon Jeong-hee) promotes Haeundae as an ambassador for the World Expo tourism site. She has a daughter with her ex-husband, Dr. Kim Hwi (played by Park Jung-hoon), a geological expert at the International Ocean Research Institute, but she has since found another lover. Dr. Kim is very troubled by this and simultaneously discovers that the geological conditions of Pulau, Malaysia, and Haeundae’s East Sea mirror those of the 2004 Indonesian tsunami, indicating a rare and massive tsunami approaching Haeundae.
