The film tells the story set in Sri Lanka, where the civil war is nearing its end, and countless refugees are waiting to leave this war-torn land. To facilitate their application for political asylum, a young woman, Yalini (played by Kalieaswari Sriniv), a former soldier of the Tamil Tigers, Dhipan (played by Jesuthasan Anthonythasan), and a 9-year-old girl, Elaya (played by Claudine Vinasitha), who has lost her parents, pretend to be a family and start a new life in the suburbs of Paris, France. Dhipan finds a job as an apartment manager in a poverty-stricken area, while Yalini, who doesn't speak French, works as a housekeeper for a local family, and "daughter" Elaya enrolls in a nearby school. Life seems to be moving in a positive direction, but the suburbs of Paris, filled with violence, drugs, and crime, are destined not to be a sanctuary for their peaceful existence. When fate becomes insurmountable, Dhipan is left with no choice but to use his familiar means to protect this “family” of three strangers who depend on each other.
