In a small coastal town in the north, the Liu family lives with their grandfather Liu Shikai, who is stubborn and strict about rules; their father Liu Weiguo, who is tough on the outside but soft on the inside and very concerned about his image; their mother Wang Peifen, who dotes on her son and is enthusiastic about public welfare; and their grandson Liu Shouchuang, who is struggling to make a living in the south while pursuing his photography dreams. However, the family has not had dinner together for a long time. The annual Gu Yu Fishermen's Festival in the fishing village is about to take place, but only the older generation, including Liu Shikai and Old Zhang, is very invested in the Gu Yu sea worship ceremony. After being away for three years, Liu Shouchuang returns with news of his upcoming wedding next month. The rare gathering for dinner unexpectedly triggers long-buried conflicts between Liu Shikai and his son Liu Weiguo. The arrival of Liu Shouchuang's girlfriend Qian Lu also brings changes to this fishing family, showcasing the persistence and compromise between two generations of fathers and sons, the inheritance and fading of the "fishbone spirit," the openness of the city versus the preservation of the fishing village, and the issues surrounding marriage in China related to housing. All these elements converge in the ordinary life of this northern Chinese fishing family, waiting to be resolved during the opening day of the Fishermen's Festival.
