In 1956, two high school students, Theo and Kurt, came across news coverage of the Hungarian Revolution on their way to watch a movie in West Berlin. In remembrance of the deceased from the uprising, they, along with their classmates, decided to collectively ignore the teacher and have a moment of silence for one minute in class. However, this brief minute completely changed the fate of the students in the class, many of whom were subsequently viewed as targets by the East German Stasi and subjected to surveillance and persecution. After their class was forcibly dissolved, they resolved to regroup in West Germany, albeit as refugees with a new identity.
