Clara (Sonia Braga) is nearly 60 and was once an outstanding music critic. Now, Clara lives alone in a building called "Aquarius," a uniquely styled structure built in the 1940s with a rich history. Clara loves this beautiful building by the sea and considers it her perfect home. One day, Clara learns that a large real estate company has bought the entire building and plans to demolish it, which means Clara must sell her apartment by a deadline. Faced with this power, Clara refuses to easily yield. With all the other residents having moved out, Clara becomes the "holdout" in the Aquarius building, starting a prolonged battle against the greedy developers in her own way.
