Steve (played by Bill Murray) is a marine documentary director whose works have added a dreamy color to the childhoods of many children. During a shoot, Steve's old friend is killed by a tiger shark, which deeply traumatizes him, and he vows to find the shark to avenge his friend, turning this into the theme of his new film. At a press event, Steve meets a young man named Ned (played by Owen Wilson), who claims to be his son, and he invites Ned to join his creative team. Steve faces many challenges including a lack of funds, a troubled relationship with his wife, and his documentary losing its appeal. A journalist named Jane (played by Cate Blanchett) joins Steve's team to write a personal biography about him, but her relationship with Steve is strained, and she grows closer to Ned, making Steve very jealous. Meanwhile, Ned's true identity raises doubts in Steve's mind. The arrival of a group of pirates completely derails Steve's plans, and a crew member is kidnapped. In such a dire situation, can the battle-hardened Steve complete his revenge plan?
