Adapted from Graham Swift's novel of the same name. The story takes place in 1924, when the Niven couple (played by Colin Firth and Olivia Colman) attend the engagement lunch of their neighbor's son Paul (played by Josh O'Connor) and Emma (played by Emma D'Arcy). This allows the Niven family's maid Jane (played by Odessa Young) to take a day off to celebrate Mother's Day, which makes her feel happy about her freedom. For the past seven years, she has been Paul's lover without any guilt. This time, they finally get to meet in Paul’s bedroom for the first time, and today will be their last meeting as lovers.
