"Hung Gar vs Wing Chun," directed by the martial arts master Chang Cheh, with Tang Shun and Lau Kar-leung as martial arts directors, develops its story around the themes of training and breaking skills. It tells the tale of the Eight Banners Martial Arts School, which serves the Qing court, hiring experts Ba Gang (Leung Kar-yan) and Yu Bi (Wang Lung-wei) to challenge the Shaolin temple run by Master Lin Zantian. The only survivors from the martial arts school are Mai Han (Tang Yancan), Chen Baorong (Qi Guanjun), Li Yao (Fu Sheng), and He Zhenggang (Liu Jiahui). They urgently head to the deep mountains to seek help from Master Lin Zantian. Lin then sends Mai and He to learn the "Ground-Eagle Claw Technique" and "Powerful Eagle Claw Technique" from King of Eagle Claw, hoping to counter Ba's "Iron Shirt" and Yu's Qi Gong. Unfortunately, after mastering their skills, Mai and He are defeated and killed in combat against Ba and Yu.
