In 1375, during the transition from the Yuan to the Ming dynasty in China, the Goryeo Kingdom also experienced internal turmoil, leading to the murder of Ming envoys by Goryeo. That year, a Goryeo delegation, led by General Choi Jeong (played by Joo Jin-mo) and the governor of the local military, Da Jeong (played by Ahn Sung-kee), was sent to the Ming dynasty, but were detained by border officials who mistook them for revenge-seeking Ming envoys, and were exiled to the desert. The delegation encountered an attack from a Mongolian band in the desert and unexpectedly gained their freedom. On their way back to Goryeo, they stumbled upon Princess Furong (played by Zhang Ziyi), who had been captured by General Rahamu (played by Yu Rongguang) of the Mongolian forces. Choi Jeong decided to rescue Princess Furong in order to travel south to Nanjing and meet the court, completing the mission of the delegation. The freed slave Yeong-soo (played by Jung Woo-sung) and members of the Tiger and Dragon Army and local military launched a massacre to rescue the princess. Rahamu, unwilling to relent, returned to his camp to gather his men, vowing to take the princess back to the desert…
