The film is based on true events. On January 15, 2009, Sully (played by Tom Hanks) was the captain of US Airways Flight 1549. Two minutes after takeoff, the plane was struck by birds, causing both engines to fail. Sully decided to make an emergency landing on the Hudson River, with all 155 people on board surviving. However, subsequent investigations indicated that he made the wrong choice, suggesting he could have returned to LaGuardia Airport. What really happened on the plane?
