The story takes place in the picturesque Orange County. The unexpected death of a friend shocks Sean (played by Colin Hanks), who was once passionate about surfing, as he has never experienced such a real and painful event in his life. By chance, Sean digs up the novel "The Disheveled Jacket" by writer Marcus (played by Kevin Kline) in the sand, which completely transforms Sean, leading him to decide to give up surfing and become a writer. After completing his first novel, Sean achieves excellent exam results through his wisdom and hard work. He sends his novel to Marcus and submits his application materials to Stanford University, where Marcus is located. To his dismay, all his efforts result in a rejection, as the school mistakenly sent a failing student’s transcript instead of Sean’s to Stanford. With only 24 hours left, Sean must do everything he can to correct this fatal mistake.
