Jiang Ruoting is the chief reporter of Jiutian Network. Just as she is about to hold her wedding, Jiutian Network participates in a charity event called "Finding the Most Beautiful Smile." The photographic work that receives the most online votes will be awarded as the "Most Beautiful Smile" and become the charity image ambassador. Jiang Ruoting's colleagues are unable to accept this task for various reasons, and with the wedding approaching, Jiang Ruoting is ultimately persuaded by the charity aspect of the event and the professional ethics of a reporter. Despite the pressure from her fiancé Ye Hua, she takes on the task. However, Ye Hua sets a condition: she must make a quick trip that cannot affect the wedding. Jiang Ruoting agrees wholeheartedly. Jiang Ruoting heads to her destination, Shannan. On the long-distance bus, she accidentally photographs several children from a mountain village. After the bus drives away, she suddenly realizes that the little girls resemble the style of the characters she envisioned, so she gets off the bus to find them. She photographs and searches along the way, encountering a kind-hearted brother who helps her search but gets lost in the mountains. After misunderstandings are cleared up, the villagers rescue her and escort her to the school where the little girls attend. Eventually, under the guidance of Teacher Fang, she finds the girls' home, which turns out to be a group of children whose parents work away from home: sisters Shanzhao, Shanta, and Shanxing. Jiang Ruoting decides to stay in their home to shoot her project. Although Jiang Ruoting settles in, the sisters have a cousin named Juhua who often calls them to do heavy labor, depleting their already strained food supplies. Jiang Ruoting frequently has to negotiate with her, sometimes leading to conflict. At the start of her shoot, she is attracted by the freshness of the countryside and the innocence of the children, but the harsh living conditions of the mountain village, the poor hygiene, and the difficult lives of the children and their learning conditions, along with the responsibilities placed on Teacher Fang to care for the children's education and lives, deeply sadden Jiang Ruoting. Therefore, she decides to take advantage of her shooting breaks to help Teacher Fang with lessons. At this time, a cosmetics company owner, Li Yanyan, sees Jiang Ruoting's report and wants to send her son Xiaoze to the mountain village for discipline. So she brings Xiaoze to be with Jiang Ruoting and also brings 20,000 yuan to improve the lives of the children in the mountains. Xiaoze joins the children in classes at the mountain village school but becomes a troublemaker, often clashing with the local children. Jiang Ruoting brings him along to attend classes and live with the children, helping him to integrate into the environment. Jiang Ruoting's reports also gain attention and support from netizens, and donations begin to pour in for the children and the village school. Just as Jiang Ruoting is enjoying her time, Ye Hua calls to inform her that his grandmother is in the hospital due to heart issues. She decides to end her shooting tasks. Before leaving, she has a heartfelt conversation with Teacher Fang, who, past fifty, often cannot care for his elderly sick mother because he is busy teaching the children; his wife has remarried in the county due to their family's poverty, taking their child with her. Jiang Ruoting feels a paternal bond through Teacher Fang. The day before her departure, Xiaoze has a conflict with Juhua, gets reprimanded, and disappears into the mountains. In a panic, Jiang Ruoting leads the villagers and local police in a search for a day and a night, finally finding Xiaoze, who is barely alive, and saves him. He learns a lesson as well. Reluctantly, Jiang Ruoting leaves the mountain village school and returns to Beijing. At this point, there is only one month left until her wedding. Back in Beijing, Jiang Ruoting reports to the editor-in-chief, and among the many photos she took, the one of Shanzhao carrying Shanan is awarded "The Most Beautiful Smile." She completes her task successfully, and the editor-in-chief grants her leave to prepare for the wedding with Ye Hua. Just as Jiang Ruoting is having her final parental meeting with Ye Hua's parents and grandmother before their wedding, Juhua calls with shocking news: Teacher Fang has died after being hit by a car while riding to the county to buy groceries. Heartbroken, Jiang Ruoting immediately worries about the children at the mountain village school. She proposes to Ye Hua to postpone the wedding and go back to Shannan to teach, but Ye Hua strongly opposes her decision, leading to a heated argument. However, with her grandmother's support, Jiang Ruoting is determined to return to Shannan and starts her teaching life. After Xiaoze returns to Beijing, he quickly reverts to his old self. Li Yanyan decides to send Xiaoze back to the mountain village to continue his discipline. Jiang Ruoting returns to the mountain village and begins to leverage the website's power to seek funding for the school and the children. Netizens donate money and goods for the children, and Jiang Ruoting also calls for charitable entrepreneurs to contribute funds to build school facilities. With Jiang Ruoting's efforts, Li Yanyan and another enterprise decide to donate funds for the school construction, which receives strong support from the county. Xiaoze takes the initiative to share her burdens, helping everyone solve their living problems, leading to a harmonious living and learning environment among the children, who become like family. Juhua, the cousin of Shanzhao and Shanan, becomes Jiang Ruoting's assistant. Jiang Ruoting has integrated into the teaching and life of the mountain village; the children are experiencing unprecedented changes in their living and learning environments, thriving under the new conditions. At this time, she receives a call from Ye Hua, saying that his grandmother's health is critical. Jiang Ruoting rushes back to Beijing day and night, only to find that her grandmother has passed away. She reflects on the thirty years of memories with her grandmother. It turns out Jiang Ruoting is an orphan who was adopted from an orphanage by her grandmother, and they relied on each other. After handling her grandmother's funeral, Jiang Ruoting finds herself unable to even contemplate her own future, wholly concerned about Shannan, the place where she taught and the innocent children and simple people there. She returns to Shannan. The newly built school facilities rise, and the children eagerly await the completion. Following her plans and with support and encouragement from all walks of life, Jiang Ruoting continuously improves the education and living conditions for impoverished children in Shannan. The school facilities are completed, and local government officials and charitable entrepreneurs attend the school's inauguration ceremony. More young teachers join the ranks of volunteer teachers, transforming the previously backward educational landscape and impoverished living conditions of the mountain village. Ye Hua understands the difficulties of teaching work and realizes Jiang Ruoting's deep bond with the children. He is deeply moved and also comes to Shannan to help Jiang Ruoting in her teaching efforts.
